Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu ( Ninjago in Brazil or Lego Ninjago in Portugal ) is a series of animated US, which revolves around the adventures of six ninjas (Lloyd, Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane, and Nya). The series is based on a line of toys from the LEGO Group. The series began on January 14, 2011. In Brazil, the series has been shown by Disney XD since 2012 and also by SBT. In Portugal, it was exhibited by SIC K and SIC since 2011.
The show is set in the fictional world of Ninjago, a place inspired by Chinese and Japanese myths and culture. It appears in the series as a large sprawling terrain more like the chain of islands in Japan, with different home living areas with various animals and plants, including dragons and serpentine Tribus. It has an underground world where evil beings such as Lord Garmadon and the Skeleton Army inhabited, along with sacred places where many things are hidden or forgotten (such as the serpentine tombs or the Stone War chambers that would later become the new home of snakes). Similar to Lego Bionicle’s past product line, the main characters are in tune with certain elemental properties (elements, in this case, being fire, ice, lightning, earth, and water.)
In 2016, a spin-off movie from the series called The LEGO Ninjago Movie, dated September 2017, was confirmed.
Ninjago was created by the First Master of Spinjitzu, an enigmatic figure whose origins are never revealed. He created the earth using Spinjitzu’s four weapons, forged in a place known as the Golden Peaks: the Lightning Nunchucks, the sword of fire, the Ice Shurikens, and The Earthquake Scythe. But opposing him was the Overlord, the first and most powerful Dark-born entity of Darkness who needed to maintain the balance of the world in its favor of Evil. The war continued until Overlord created the Stone Army to defeat the Spinjitzu Master and make sure that good would fail. Knowing he can lose, the Master divides Ninjago in two, restoring his balance and trapping the Overlord in the parallel world. With Ninjago alone, the Spinjitzu Master had two sons, Wu and Garmadon, whom he trained in Spinjitzu and loved them deeply. During his youth, Garmadon was bitten by the legendary serpent “Great Devourer”, a Serpentine Snake God (trapped in an underground tomb), which was filled with evil (probably due to Overlord’s power). The snake venom consumed almost all of Garmadon’s morals and kindness. When Spinjitzu’s First Master died, Wu and Garmadon were instructed to protect the four golden weapons. But Garmadon, infected with the Serpent’s toxic poison, tried to take out all four weapons to use them for his purpose. There was a battle between the brothers and Garmadon was banished to the underworld where he turned into a being of evil: not alive. , not dead. Knowing that his brother would find a way to escape his prison and make his dreams come true bad, Wu Sensei hid the four weapons throughout Ninjago and placed elemental Dragons there to protect them. At some point, probably in the time before the series opens, a prophecy came to light that the Green Ninja would rise above all other fighters and defeat the lord of lords who was thought to be Garmadon but actually Overlord, returning the Ninjago balance.
