Rabbits are lagomorphs mammals of the leporid family, usually of the genera Oryctolagus and Sylvilagus. They are characterized by the short tail, ears, and long paws. These small mammals are easily found in many regions of the planet. The term is used to refer to species of eight genera, including Amami rabbit (Pentalagus), American rabbits (Sylvilagus) and pygmy rabbit (Brachylagus). Some authors include the genus Caprolagus in the rabbit group (Asian rabbit), but most classify it as belonging to hares. The most common species is Oryctolagus cuniculus or European rabbit.
The human being introduced the European rabbit into Australia in the 19th century, in an episode that disturbed the environment in that country. Upon arriving in Australia, the European rabbit multiplied with a very high rate because it had no natural predator, and turned into a hindrance that economically damaged agriculture. All efforts to control the situation were of no use. But one day it came to spread infectious myxomatosis. Infectious myxomatosis is an endemic disease among Brazilian rabbits. However, the probable fatality rate in the European rabbit was unfortunately 99% of the cases.
The ears and legs of the rabbits are long. Despite this, the size of the ears and legs of the rabbits is small in relation to that of the true hares. The length of the rabbit tails is short. However, rabbits are animals that run a lot. The two genera to which rabbits belong are Oryctolagus and Sylvilagus, Oryctolagus is the genus representing the common European rabbit. Sylvilagus has a large number of species from the United States. The genus Sylvilagus belongs to the Tapiti or Brazilian Rabbit forest. Most of its species are used to starting opening galleries underground. Underground, a diversity of generations is successful in nests. The rabbit’s body also has an always small size compared to that of the hares.
It is an animal called fur-covered garizo. The rabbit’s ears are long. The rabbit’s ass is short. Rabbits are not called walkers or corridors like many quadruped animals. A rabbit makes the movement jumping with his hind legs. The length of the hind legs is longer. The strength of the hind legs is greater than the strength of the front legs. The animal is also a front-legged user during its movement. The rabbit is a front-legged user as the hands are used by humans for the four jumps. When an enemy chases you, the range of rabbit speed is 70 km/h. Most minors own rabbits as pets. In animals, shops are sold very interesting rabbits to domesticate. Rabbit farming is intended for the sale of pets.
The geographical distribution of rabbits exists in Africa, Europe and other parts of the world. Their habitat has burrowed that stay in the fields. Their rabbits can choose the hideout of the cubs. The hideout of the cubs is made in the bushes or among the tall weeds. In general, the number of puppies born of a female is four or five. The female can give birth three to four times annually.
There are great similarities between rabbits and hares. That’s why rabbits and hares get very confused. Sometimes they call themselves wrong. The size of most rabbits is smaller than that of the hares. Already, the length of the ears of rabbits is shorter. The recognition of animals can be done at the time when the cubs are born. First, a rabbit born a short time ago is not able to see. Second, it’s not covered in fur. And third, can hardly make a movement. A hare that was born recently has a good vision. The hare’s coat is gifted with beauty. The hare can make the jump within hours of its birth. In addition, the size and shape of the cranial bones that the rabbit has differs from the cranial bones that have the hare.
Rabbits and hares belong to the same order, Lagomorpha. The name that gives itself to this order is derived from two Greek words that have the meaning of “hare” form”. To study where the order is placed in the animal kingdom, see Scientific classification.
